We subtract the years and check whether the birthday has occurred by the reference date. We also count calendar days.

For February 29 births, the birthday is considered March 1 in non-leap years. This is not a legal age calculation.

Worked example and interpretation
Someone born on May 10, 1990 is 35 on May 9, 2026 and 36 the next day. Subtracting calendar years alone gives the wrong age before the birthday.
What to check
The reference date can be past or future. Do not divide elapsed days by 365 to obtain complete years: leap years and the birth month and day matter.
Frequently asked questions
How does the tool calculate exact age?
It compares the birth date with the reference date and counts completed birthdays. It also shows elapsed days and full weeks. It does not approximate age by dividing the number of days by 365.
What if I was born on February 29?
In non-leap years, this calculator increases completed years on March 1. Elapsed days include actual February 29 dates. This is a calculation convention, not a legal rule for reaching adulthood.
Are completed years the same as elapsed time?
No. Completed years count birthdays, while elapsed time can include extra months and days. The tool reports whole years and total days separately rather than treating every year as 365 days.
Can I calculate age on a future date?
Yes. Keep the birth date and change the reference date to the day you want to check. You can also choose a past date, provided it is not earlier than the birth date.
